As a child, everything new was just fun, but sad to say as we grow older, the world around us seems to change into something scary, and with the power of the Internet there is abundance of information you can get whether is it's useful to you or not.
I joined dog forums since I was 14. Every thread read or post started was to gain more more knowledge about the upkeep of my dogs and to get some cheap buys from consolidated orders or second hand items.
Things started to get a lil scary when I did some good. Like fostering and rescuing dogs. It was an episode of home visits, vet visits, then bullets from forum and the last straw was verbal threats and to the police station.
Recently, a lie made to prevent a saga from happening was questioned. Told the whole truth and sorta drag another forumer into the 'mess' and now I'm being blamed, for telling the truth.
So is it better to tell the truth or not? I guess it's best not to even lie. None of accidental discovery or of harboured bad reputation/charater or blaming would result.
Another incident, because someone introdced me to this girl who WANTED DESPERATELY to have an offspring from her old aged male Pudding hamster, I agreed to let Humpty be bred to him IF she likes him. Another reason was that I wanted another hamster to accompany Humpty in the tank after Dumpty passed on.
We made an agreement to keep mum about this as well. You know, breeding and forums don't go hand in hand unless you have a breed of hamster with quality genes which can be traced. But this someone went to get advice about ME from another forumer who doesn't know ME!
So the "deal" was called off because I was labelled "what kind of person would put 2 hamsters together in a tank when advise not to?" I did not even had a single thought about selling off any of the pups!
I didn't felt angry or upset or even the least disappointed when the breeding did not happened. It did not matter to me. And why I'm kicking up such a fuss now it's because of the people hiding behind search engines and forums and speaking bad about other people when they do not even know the person.
C'mon lah, I was keeping both females and I wanted to see them cuddling and living cutely together. Crime? Unetical?
Give me quality hamsters from top bloodline anytime and I can tell you I WILL NOT BREED. I don't need to sell hamsters for a living and neither do I want to take my hamster hobby that far. For a lil fame and money, one could do better in the dog's world.
My pets are all females, I could had easily bred the dogs, or the rabbit as well, and sell the kids back to the petshop where I got her. But did I? Do I need to?
No doubt their expenditure is quite a large amount every month, but earning money via giving tuition and taking up ad hoc jobs is sufficient, especially when Chris contributes a fairly large amount.
I want specific pets because they appeal to me. Not because I can make bucks out of them.
I want them so as to keep me occupied and happy, to make me smile the first thing in the morning and at the end of an angry or tiring day. But I got judged and condemned by every action and statement made?
The world gets crazier as we grow and gets exposed to more things. Is that why there isn't a REAL person left on earth anymore?
Past week I was trying my luck to find a nice Syrian hamster, hoping for a quality one too as I did not want to get one from the local petstore which breeds rat faced Syrians. Neither do I want to get one from one of the "Unetical hamster breeders" they often talk about in the forum. I searched hard. Asked some labelled ethical breeders but there was no available Syrians.
I gave up hope. With the thought that some of these high and almighty ethical breeders, who will not even look me in the eye when we talked, would spare one of their super precious hamster to me. I then thought to myself where will people like me get good breeds of hamsters if such ethical breeders are reluctant to let go of theirs?
It's a cycle, a chain reaction, a demand and supply theory.
Since there's no way for me to adopt one that I liked, or to buy one from such ethical breeders with quality genes. There's only home breeder to go, and that's where I got Popcorn from earlier this evening.
How funny when people aims to create the most beautiful dog/cat/hamster and wants to deter people from getting from unethical breeders/petshops when they're so reluctant to sell their offspring to people who simply wants a PET. And when they do, they'll screen the person upside down, through and through as if it's an Xray going through to reveal your whole life.
Now I finally understand why some people I know sticks to buying pets instead of all the hassle of adopting and going through ethical breeders.
I just want a pet, FULLSTOP.
